Yervant Aghaton (1860-1935)

Yervant Aghaton (1860-1935), The other deputy chairperson. He is not only one of the initiators of the founding of AGBU but also one of the main participants in forming AGBU’s constitution. Who later devoted himself entirely to the Union until the end of his life. As Vahan Malezian points out, “Aghaton had a deep devotion to the Union to an extent that sometimes he even preferred the Union to his family”! Yervant Aghaton's father, Krikor Aghaton who died when his son Yervant was only 8 years old, was the son of a farmer who became one of the authors of the National Constitution, the first Christian minister of the Ottoman Empire.
►Երուանդ Աղաթօն, միւս փոխ ատենապետը:...ան ոչ միայն Միութեան հիմնադրութեան նախաձեռնողներէն մէկը, այլ մասնակից կանոնագիրի ստեղծման, և հետագային ամբողջութեամբ նուիրուեցաւ Միութեան մինչեւ իր կեանքին վերջը: Վահան Մալէզեանի խօսքերով՝...խոր պաշտամունք ունէր Միութեան համար, և կարելի է առանց չափազանցութեան ըսել թէ երբեմն իր ընտանիքէն անգամ կը գերադասէր Բարեգործականը: Երուանդ Աղաթօնի հայրը՝ Գրիգոր Աղաթoն, որ մահացաւ երբ զաւակը՝ Երուանդ 8 տարեկան էր, եղած էր հողագործի զաւակ, որ սակայն, դարձաւ Ազգային Սահմանադրութեան հեղինակներէն մէկը և Օսմանեան կայսրութեան առաջին քրիստոնեայ նախարարը:(The AGBU One Hundred Years of History Vol. I 1906-1940 p19)
