Yakub Artin Pasha (1842-1919)

YACOUB ARTIN PASHA "He is the most respected-if not the most dominant figure in the AGBU Central Committee. Yakup Artin Pasha, who from the first day of the foundation followed the work of the Union systematically with great care, meticulous supervision, and followed the basic principles of the law with excellent diligence […]" (Voskemaտian, 1906-1931, p. 14). Yakup Artin (Hagop Artin Pasha Chrakian), Minister of Foreign Affairs in Egypt, was born in Cairo in 1842. After receiving an Armenian education at the Mekhitarist Samuel Murat Rafaelian School, he continued his studies in European (France, England, Germany) universities, majoring in history, literature, and linguistics. In 1873, Yakup Artin was invited to Egypt, and by the decision of Ismail Pasha, he became the tutor of his sons, Prince Ibrahim Hilmi, Mahmood Fouad (who later became the Sultan of Egypt), and later became the personal secretary of Ismail Pasha. ►Since 1880, he has held senior positions in Egyptian public institutions. ►In 1883, he was Egypt's Deputy Minister of Education for 23 consecutive years. "He organized primary and secondary Egyptian schools, as well as he improved the educational level of high schools and became the founder of Cairo Arth & Technical schools." [ According to the reports read at international conferences, he was the establisher and manager of oriental societies for Oriental Studies. He was a well-known figure in Europe with his reports at international conferences. He has received the title of Honorary Doctor from the Universities of Scotland and Aberdeen. Moreover, he found time to organize the local Catholic community, drafting its constitution (internal regulations) and ensuring the government's recognition. Boghos Nubar and Yakup Artin were old friends and lived next door. Եագուպ Արթին Փաշան, որ հիմնարկէքի առաջին օրէն՝ կաթոգին հոգածութեամբ մը քայլ առ քայլ հետեւած է Միութեան աշխատանքին, և օրէնքի ու գիտութեան մարդու կրկնակ գերազանց բծախնդրութեամբ մը հսկած է անոր կանոնադրական ուղղութեան ու հիմնական սկզբունքներուն անթերի ու անխոտոր կիրարկումին» «...ազնուական հայու տիպարն էր, որ իր շուրջը պատկառանք կ'ազդէր»: (Ոսկեմատեան, 1906-1931, էջ 14) »: Եագուպ Արթինը (Յակոբ Արթին փաշա Չրաքեան) Եգիպտոսի Արտաքին գործերու նախարարի, Արթին Պէյ Չրաքեանի որդին, ծնած էր Գահիրէ, 1842 թուականին: Մխիթարեաններու Սամուէլ-Մուրատ Ռաֆայէլեան վարժարանին մէջ հայեցի կրթութիւն և դաստիարակութիւն ստանալէ ետք ան ուսումը կը շարունակէ եւրոպական (Ֆրանսա, Անգլիա, Գերմանիա) համալսարաններու մէջ մասնագիտանալով՝ պատմութեան, գրականութեան և լեզուաբանութեան բնագաւառներու մէջ: ►1873-ին Եագուպ Արթին կը հրաւիրուի Եգիպտոս և Իսմայիլ փաշայի որոշումով կը դառնայ անոր զաւակներուն՝ Իշխան Իպրահիմ Հիլմիի, Մահմուտ Ֆուատի և (տարիներ անց Եգիպտոսի սուլթան) դաստիարակ-հսկիչը, և աւելի ետք Իսմայիլ Փաշայի անձնական քարտուղարը: 1880-էն սկսեալ ան բարձր պաշտօններ կ'ստանձնէ Եգիպտոսի պետական հիմնարկներու մէջ: 1883-ին Եգիպտոսի Կրթութեան փոխ նախարարն է, շարունակաբար 23 տարի»: «կը կազմակերպէ Եգիպտոսի նախակրթարանները և երկրորդական վարժարանները, ինչպէս նաեւ բարձրագոյն դպրոցներու մակարդակը կը բարելաւէ և կ'ըլլայ հիմնադիր Գահիրէի Arth & Technical schools Արհեստից և Արուեստից վարժարաններուն»: “Societies for Oriental Studies” Արեւելագիտական ընկերութիւններու հիմնադիրն ու ղեկավարը: Միջազգային գիտաժողովներուն կարդացած զեկուցումներով, Եւրոպայի մէջ ճանչցուած անձնաւորութիւն մը դարձած էր: Scotland-ի Aberdeen Ապէրտինի և St Andrew համալսարաններէն Honorary Doctor-ի կոչում ստացած էր: ...Ասոնց կողքին ժամանակ գտած է կազմակերպելու տեղւոյն կաթոլիկ համայնքը, պատրաստելով անոր սահմանադրութիւնը (ներքին կանոնագիրը) և ապահովեց կառավարութեան ճանաչումը: Պօղոս Նուպար և Եագուպ Արթին հին բարեկամներ էին և կը բնակէին հարեւանութեամբ: ►1919-ին Մահացաւ Եագուպ Արթին, յուղարկաւորութեան մասնակցեցան Եգիպտոսի Սուլթանի ներկայացուցիչը, վարչապետը, նախարարներ և դեսպաններ, ինչպէս նաեւ հայկական բազմաթիւ կազմակերպութիւններ: *( ԵՄ ՀԲԸՄ-Պատմութիւն էջ23-32)
