Tripoli Region – Jubilee Celebration November 8, 1981 The Diamond Jubilee (75th Anniversary) of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), together with the Golden Jubilee (50th Anniversary) of the Armenian Youth Association (AYA/HEM), was celebrated with fitting grandeur on Sunday, November 8, 1981, at the Tripoli Chapter’s own clubhouse.----------- The event was honored by the presence of Rev. Fr. Asbed Demirjian, the community’s parish priest; Rev. Louthfik Haydostian, pastor of the local Armenian Evangelical community; the guest speaker Mr. Hampartsoum Koumrouyan; Mr. Sarkis Minasian, Executive Secretary of the AGBU Regional Committee, accompanied by his wife; and numerous distinguished guests.---------- The hall was filled to capacity with members of the Armenian community, AGBU members, and supporters. Guests were welcomed by the scouts of the A Y A ------- Following the audience’s standing observance of the Lebanese National Anthem, those present sang the anthems of both the AGBU and the Armenian Youth------ Association.-------- The celebration was opened by the Chapter Chairwoman, Mrs. A. Kojayan, who delivered appropriate remarks for the occasion before proceeding with the program. A report on the founding and activities of the AGBU Tripoli Chapter was presented by board member Mr. Y. Sahakian.----------The ceremony also included the presentation of certificates to 26 veteran members, distributed by Mr. Sarkis Minasian, Executive Secretary of the AGBU Regional Committee.---------- The jubilee celebration served as a tribute to the longstanding service and achievements of both the AGBU and the Armenian Youth Association, highlighting their important contributions to the Armenian community of Tripoli and Lebanon.----------- (Kh. 1981 Nov p28-29)
