After breakfast, the former group leader of the Alec Manougian Scout Group, Brother Vazken Kasemjian, briefly explained the various districts of the city of Yerevan from the top of the Youth Palace, after which we visited the Madenadaran (the State Repository of Ancient Manuscripts of Yerevan).------------ After touring the surroundings of the Madenataran and having lunch, we had the opportunity to watch a match of the Ararat football team. The Hrazdan Stadium was shaking with the cries of “Ararat–Ararat” from a crowd of 70,000. In high spirits, we returned to the Palace.------------- On Friday morning we visited Victory Park, then the “Armenian Station” and the statue of Sasuntsi Davit. We then headed to Erebuni and its museum. In the evening we attended a performance of Hamlet at the Chamber (Experimental) Theatre.-------------- On Saturday morning we spent the time visiting the Temple of Karni and the rock-hewn church of Keghart.------------- Sunday was Easter. From Yerevan, about 45 minutes away, we headed toward Etchmiadzin. Along the way, Mount Ararat was our constant companion. On the road we encountered the Church of Zvartnots, which lies in ruins with only its ground plan remaining. We then proceeded to Holy Etchmiadzin------------. A vast crowd—composed of young and old alike—had gathered to celebrate Easter. We visited the church museum, went up to the Veharan (Catholicos’ residence), and viewed the golden khachkar alphabet. -----------His Holiness Vazken I, Catholicos of All Armenians, after concluding his sermon, received our group as well as a group of Armenians from the Diaspora.--------------- Sc. leader Cherchian presented His Holiness with a commemorative inscription carved on a piece of the trunk of a cedar tree, along with an AGBU honorary neckerchief.------------ After lunch, we headed to Sardarabad. On Monday morning we visited the four churches located near Lake Sevan. That same afternoon, we were guests at the Pioneers’ Palace of the Leninagan region. During the meeting, Pioneers aged 6–8 presented a beautiful dance, after which a fifteen-member Pioneer musical ensemble performed several pieces-------------.Then the Director of the Palace, Mr. Yuri Krikorian, spoke to us about their daily activities. Souvenirs were exchange. We then proceeded to the Tevin guesthouse, where we spent the night in a warm atmosphere, surrounded by Armenian brothers and students who were always ready to assist us.-------------- On Tuesday morning, we were invited to the headquarters of the “Committee of Cultural------ Relations with the Diaspora”. Present at this meeting were the Committee’s President, Mr. Vartges Hamazasbyan; Vice President, Mr. André Mardirosian; the Middle East representative, Mr. Ghougasian; and Mr. Souren Naghrian, responsible for Lebanese affairs. The esteemed members of the Committee showed close interest in the various activities of AGBU. Cherchian presented Mr. Hamazasbyan with an overview of AGBU’s activities, placing particular emphasis on the Scout movement.------------ Among all the places we visited, the most impressive was Dzitzernagapert, the symbol dedicated to the martyred victims of the Armenian Genocide. Our week-long visit to Armenia was truly pleasant and unforgettable for us. (Kh, June 1980, pp. 27–30) (Kh 1980 Jun p27-30)
