AGBU-AYA A. Manougian Chapter Scouts Summer camp in Cyprus

AGBU-AYA Alec Manougian Chapter Scout Group Summer Camp in Cyprus The AGBU–AYA Alec Manougian Scouts leaders, following the successful trip to Armenia during the Easter season, had planned to organize a general summer camp for the A Manougian chapter Sc groups. However, due to political developments in Lebanon, it was not possible to carry out the program. ------------- Under these circumstances, it was decided to replace the general camp with a camp-tour to Cyprus for the scouts.----------------- “Held from August 26 to September 2, 1980, this tour provided an excellent opportunity for the 46 AYA members, scouts, and guides to become acquainted with the AYA members, scouts, and the Armenian community of Cyprus, while also enjoying the beautiful nature of Cyprus and visiting its sightseeing attractions.--------------- The AYA Scout Group was welcomed at Larnaca Airport by community officials Mr. Kevork Gazanjian, Mr. David Shahabian, Mr. Arto Nalchajian, as well as Raffi Bedikian and Asdghig Ashjian.----------------- In the afternoon, the group arrived at the AGBU Melkonian Educational Institute (Nicosia), where they established their residence.------------- The following day, after breakfast, the group members toured the markets of Nicosia. After lunch, the group headed to Limassol, where they were welcomed by Mrs. Sosy Bedikian of the Melkonian Educational Institute and her husband, Mr. Varoujan Bedikian.-------------- On Thursday, August 28, after breakfast, the group went to Limassol where they visited the local Armenian school, the Armenian church, and the newly built AYA club.-------------- On Friday, August 29, the group visited the city of Paphos, famous for its antiquities.----------------- On Saturday, August 30, the group visited the mountainous region of Cyprus.------------ On Monday morning, September 1, the guides and scouts began preparations for the campfire event. By the afternoon, the Melkonian Institute forest was already filled with AYA members, parents, and youth.------------ At 8:30 p.m., the campfire event officially opened.----------- On Tuesday, September 2, 1980, in the morning, Mrs. S. Bedikian visited the campsite and conveyed the satisfaction of the Board of Trustees and the Melkonian administration, extending best wishes for a safe journey and success to the group and its leadership.------------ The group then prepared to depart from the campsite and proceed to the airport to return to Lebanon.”------------
