A DAY FULL OF “TAROUHY”

“TAROUHY DAY” — Sunday, May 11, 1980 This year, spring has come to stay at TYarouhy Hagobian, proving that the cold winds are still weak before her, and affirming that she is ever-present in the heart of every Daruhian. After years of unavoidable interruption, the best choice of the 1979–80 academic year was to celebrate with due splendor the forty springs of Taruhy Hakobian. Taking this milestone as a starting point, the Forty-Year Jubilee Committee christened May as the “Month of Daruhi.” And thus, May 11—the anniversary of Tarouhy—became the day to celebrate in a cheerful atmosphere. From 9:30 a.m., the flower-adorned entrance and courtyard of Boghos G. Garmirian School welcomed former and current Tarouhy students with their families: parents, teachers, and many friends. All had come to witness the program to be presented. For alumnae who had not seen one another for years, this was the most fitting occasion to embrace, exchange news, and even recall episodes from their school days.-------- Mrs. Jacqueline Oknayan, a member of the Jubilee Committee, officially declared “Tarouhy Day” open. The Lebanese flag waved at the head of the procession, followed by a large emblem symbolizing Tarouhy’s 40th anniversary. Marching in orderly steps behind them were the students.------------ The anthems of Lebanon, AGBU, and Daruhi were performed. Each class contributed its share to Tarouhy Hagopian by presenting a dance.--------- After a short intermission in the first part of the artistic and dance program—during which attendees moved toward the buffet—competitions were held with the participation of teams formed on the spot.------------- At the conclusion of the event, the master of ceremonies congratulated the organizers of the day’s program and all participants.------------- (Kh 1980 Jun, pp. 09–10) ” -----
