The Steamship Transilvania left Beirut on June the 23rd carrying 1,800 immigrants to the homeland

1946 Jun 23: ”The Repatriation work has already begun in full force, and cables are bringing the happy news of immigration into Armenia… The District Committee of the AGBU of Lebanon cables from Beirut the following to the Board of Directors in New York ”The Steamship Transilvania left Beirut on June the 23rd was carrying 1,800 immigrants to the homeland.” A few days later, news arrived that this first group of immigrants reached Batoum on June the 27th, and was welcomed by the President of the Reception and Settlement Committee, V. Asvadzdourian, General Mardirosian, Second World War hero, other government officials and a multitude of welcomers!”
