1979 Nov 25 ) OPENING OF THE “POURASDAN” FLOWER EXHIBITION–COMPETITION AYA “POURASDAN” EXHIBITION AND NEW YEAR FAIR-COMPETITION On Sunday morning, November 25, 1979, the Barsamian Hall of Vahan Tekeyan School was filled with Armenian and non-Armenian flower enthusiasts. The AYA Floriculture Club, through the organization of an exhibition–competition, presented sixty floral arrangements, created by Lebanese Armenian and Non Armenian florists. The exhibition enjoyed the patronage of the AYA Central Committee. Its chairman, Dr. Mihran Simonian, together with the Honorary Guest of the day, Mrs. May Ashjian, carried out the opening of the exhibition. A welcoming address in Arabic was delivered by member of the Floriculture Club, Mrs. Rosette Kilejian, who referred to the objectives of the Floriculture Club and its activities to date. After welcoming the attendees in Armenian, the chairwoman of the Board, Mrs. Arsho Tiutiunjian, delivered words of thanks to all individuals who had extended their support to this first Armenian floral exhibition–competition. At the same time, she expressed her gratitude to the members of the judging panel—Mrs. Vicky Khoury, Mrs. Lily Wilkinson, and Mrs. Never Khachadourian. The ten distinct categories of floral arrangements were evaluated, and for each category, first and second prizes were awarded, consisting of gold-plated and silver medals.--------------- The consecutive pair of events organized by the AGBU–AYA Pourasdan Club, with their originality and richness, once again offered the opportunity to combine pleasure with progress for all those who visited the exhibition and attended the Christmas Bazaar.
