AGBU Bourj Hammoud Chapter Ladies’ New Year

“Children’s Day” New Year Gathering On Saturday afternoon, January 3, 1981, the AGBU Bourj Hammoud Chapter Ladies’ Committee organized a New Year gathering for the children of the community.---------- On that day, the Barsamian Hall of the Tekeian School became a meeting place for students from various schools and their accompanying parents. From 2:00 p.m. onward, students began arriving, with many of the younger children coming alongside their mothers.------------ Among those present were the AGBU Executive Secretary, Mr. Sarkis Minasian, and the principal of the Levon G. Nazarian School, Mr. Henry Ourfalian, along with his wife. As parents confessed, many had lost sleep in anticipation—who has not experienced that fairy-tale excitement of childhood? This year, Santa Claus was to arrive with his whole family.----------- The child in Lebanon, stepping out of the fears and harsh realities of war, was to rejoice, be uplifted, and strengthen their optimism—fortifying themselves with the resilient will and faith of people to face both good and difficult days ahead.-------------It was with this awareness that the AGBU Ladies’ Committee organized this inaugural event.---------- The chairwoman, Mrs. A. Sagherian, who also served as the master of ceremonies, welcomed the attendees and then proceeded with the program.-------------- Miss Talin Keheyan sang with heartfelt emotion. Mr. Neshan Taturian energized the audience with his accordion performance. Arpine Bardeyan contributed with a traditional Armenian solo dance. A beauty contest featuring around 50 children was also held, with three winners receiving prizes. Following this, Santa Claus entered with his family and a pair of teddy bears, to the sounds of festive songs and joyful cheers. In short, everyone fully experienced the spirit and meaning of the day. Amid songs and enthusiastic applause, Santa Claus, his wife, their child, and the teddy bears bid farewell after making a round of the hall.
