Table Tennis “Independence” Tournament

AGBU AYA Table Tennis “Independence” Tournament (November 24–30, 1980)------- During the week of November 24–30, a table tennis tournament dedicated to Lebanon’s Independence was organized by the Sports Committee of the AGBU-AYA Alec Manougian Center, and held on the Center’s tables.--------------- More than 34 male and female athletes participated in this tournament, representing five clubs. The tournament proceeded smoothly, bringing satisfaction to all participants.------------- A major contribution to this success was made by AYA coach Mr. Marcel Barsoumian, whose experience ensured the tournament’s success, together with the members of the Sports Committee.------------- Representing the AYA team were Viken Isbirian, Shahe Khachadurian, Hagop Sulahian, and Nerses Kaymakamian.-------------- The lack of Armenian athletes was noticeable in this tournament.------------- Despite the favorable conditions provided by AYA, interest in this sport and in athletic life in general has unfortunately declined significantly.-------------- It is our hope to once again see AYA’s table tennis players standing on the podium of honor, as in the past.
