AGBU Lebanon Cultural Committee "Beittedin Concert"

On August 8, 2015, over 2,000 audience members attend the Beiteddine International Festival and enjoyed performances by the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Chamber Choir of Armenia & the Hover Chamber Choir with conductor Eduard Topchjan and internationally renowned violinist Sergey Khachatryan. It was a truly spectacular concert dedicated in honor of the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, and put on with the support of AGBU Lebanon. 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of the Beiteddine Art Festival. On this special occasion, the festival wanted to pay tribute to the Armenian community and build a culture of tolerance, a spirit of unity that overcomes religion, politics and descent. The concert featured Aram Khachaturian’s Spartacus Ballet Suites, J. Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D major with the exceptional participation , of Sergey Khachatryan. After an intermission, the concert continued with Mozart’s Requiem in D minor by incorporating religious and secular texts and motifs in Armenian and Latin and Mansourian’s Requiem. The pieces were performed by tenor Berj Karazian, soprano Irina Zakyan, baritone Sargis Bazhbeuk-Melikyan, mezzo soprano Narine Ananikyan and violinist Sergey Khachatryan along with members of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hover Chamber Choir. “The concert commemorates the centenary of the Armenian Genocide. Tonight, let the music of Mozart, Khachadourian and Brahms overcome hatred and pave the way for peace and love between human beings. Let for a single night politics away. Only music can do it ….” tweeted MP Waleed Jumblatt, a leading political figure and husband of Mrs. Noura Jublatt, the president of the Beiteddine Festivals since 1987.
